These easy peasy horse crafts are perfect as farmyard craft ideas, as general horse crafts for, well horse lovers.. and also great for The Year of the Horse – which is the zodiac animal for Chinese New Year 2026! Let’s start off with this collection of printable Horse Crafts for Kids!

As you know we are rather partial to a paper puppet! Especially when it is as quirky and fun as this Paper Horse Puppet Printable – the perfect movable paper doll to make! So whether you here for some farmyard fun, or the Year of the Horse, this paper horse puppet is just the thing for you!

Again, we have a 3d Animal Coloring Page for you – this time we have the a 3d Horse Coloring Page with a choice of two backgrounds.. there is the horse on the farm and the Lunar New Year themed horse! The Farm Horse, is part of a set of 7 3d Farm Animal Coloring Pages.

Paper Clothespin Horse Craft for Preschoolers – Cut out a simple horse shape and let your preschooler have fun coloring it in and adding facial features. Love adding some yarn for main and tail! So cute!

Make some super cute and easy Horse Headbands! These can be printed full color for farmyard play (there are also some donkey headbands for nativity costumes) or printted onto card – either white card for kids to color in themselves or colorful card to save on “time”. Eg you could print the horse on red card and the band on yellow card, to make a fantastic Year of the Horse craft for Chinese New year 2026 – which is the year of the FIRE Horse, with lucky colors red and yellow!

And here is a fun Paper Hobby Horse Craft that we did as a party craft once (including free hourse outlines) – these would be amazing for any horse lovers or Year of the Horse celebrations. And all you need is paper (or light card!). Such fun!

Paper Horse Craft Ideas

So in addition to the printable horse activity ideas, I have more wonderful PAPER Horse Crafts! So these come without printables, but hopefully you will agree that the step instructions are simple enough for you to follow and create your very own horses!

As you know, we LOVE making greeting cards. Here is anothe great two for one horse themed card idea. Learn how to cut out your simple horse shapes and then turned it either into a “regular” horse card for a birthday or a farmyward party invite, or make combine it with simple Chinese New Year lanterns for the Year of the Horse! Easy! We love that the horses faces isn’t secure down, to give it a simple 3d effect!

We also have a super cute little Paper Plate Horse craft that preschoolers will love to have a go at. Again, as you can see from my final craft images, they are perfect horse ideas for both farmyard play or the Year of the Horse. Btw.. I think I was having a bit of a “moment”, with the horse’s tail – the one we made is a bit like a cow’s tail. You may want to replace it with one nice black “lock”. 🙂 Though I don’t think it really matters!

General Horse DIY Ideas

Can you believe that I made this sock horse puppet with the kids – 12 years ago, ie for the last Year of the Horse in 2014? Crazy! I can’t believe I have been creating crafts for you all for so very long. Anyway, we really had fun with this sock horse puppet – if you focus on the horse ears and mane, you can’t go wrong! Got to love hot glue guns – making this a super easy “no sew horse sock puppet”!

Make a Hobby Horse with a socks too – to be honest, this stick horse, is PRETTY similar to the hand puppet – the main difference, is that it is stuffed (with recycled materials) and has a “stick” stuck into it, for playful fun! Again, this is a blast form the past and probably one the earliest crafts here on Red Ted Art from 2010 – wow-wee!

This little Nature Horse Craft was actually made whilst we had a little craft session making conker spiders, so it is just an additional cute photo. I do love the acorn muzzle though, it always makes me smile!

Unicorn Crafts that Easily Double up as Horse Crafts

Now, we also have a number of unicorn crafts here on Red Ted Art! Not all unicorn crafts are “perfect” as horse crafts, but some are. So I will share the most suitable unicorn horse crafts here!

This toilet roll unicorn, DEFINITELY works as a toilet roll horse craft too! If you are making it for the Year of the horse, then I think using yellows and reds would work wonderfully. But of course you can paint your horse in traditional horse colors too! So cute!

Similarly, I hope you agree that the toilet roll horse marionette works really well too! Again, our toilet roll marionettes are a very early part of Red Ted Art, with our first Giraffe Marionette being a craft that really “sparked” something and me think “yes, Red Ted Art is something I want to do”. And believe it or not, I still have those giraffes – again, since 2010! Though they are a little scraggly now.

Whilst the toilet roll marionettes feel like an “iconic” part of the Red Ted Art Blog (and my first book), corner bookmarks formed a corner stone (hehehe see what I did there) of Red Ted Art on Youtube – celebrating 1 million subscribers in this year, with 340 Million views since I started it! Whoop. So of course we have a cute unicorn, or horse corner bookmark to have a go at too!

We have some 3d Unicorn Baubles and 3d Unicorn Cards – both were so so so fun to make and super easy for you to make too. You can follow the detail instructions or make use of the handy printables (nad simply not use the horn!). Perfect for Chinese New Year, don’t you think?

As you know we love to crochet too and have an extensive list of Crochet Patterns on Red Ted Art. Including a unicorn corchet pattern, that of course can easily be made into a Horse Crochet Pattern!
