Kids Crafts: Clothes Pins Pirates

This post was meant to go live NEXT week (oops)… Please find the Kids Get Crafty linky on the Solar System Post!
Welcome back to kids crafts and our clothespins pirates! We have been meaning to make peg dolls for a long long time.. there really are so many crafts out there, that we simply don’t get around to… but finally we did make some peg people! I was working on some peg dolls for my craft book coming out next year… when Red Ted got inspired… there was no stopping …

Handprint Alphabet – B is for Bee (and “Biene”)

Well.. we are back with our Handpring Alphabet – we got crafty and had a go at a “B” letter.. there is the classic Butterfly (to which Red Ted shouted “No”), there are Boats (tempted to use that as S for Ship), Books and all sorts.. but when I suggested “Bee”, Red Ted said “yes Mummy, let’s do a B, it goes like this” – showing me a butterfly. I told him that that was a butterfly, would he like to do that instead? No.
What I really like about our …

Kids Crafts: Flower Cards

Welcome back to this week’s  Kids Get Crafty and our FIMO Flower Cards! I love these cards, as they are great for small hands to make and a great way of letting them have a go at what can be quite tricky: FIMO (or polymer clay)! But of course you can make these cards out of anything – circular stickers, funky foam, card, felt (ooh that would be lovely)… anything. We just happened to have rather a nice batch of FIMO from the lovely Craft Merrily and we wanted to …

Quick Craft: (More) Walnut Boats

Yes yes yes… we have had walnut boats (click through to see that they do float!) before here on Red Ted Art.. but a child’s childhood can never have too many walnut boats. Surely?! They are easy peasy lemon squeasy to make and this time, I used up some multi coloured birthday candle left overs for that little bit of “something else”. Ta da… our walnut boats! (You can also use playdough or blutack to secure the masts, if you wish!!!!). (Check out the original walnut boats, for more detail on how to …

Handprint Alphabet – A for Alien

Red Ted (4yrs) will be going to “big school” this September… and I thought it would be fun to support him with some Handprint Alphabet crafts. Mainly because both Pip Squeak and Red Ted LOVE printing with their hands.. and apart from a “great start” two years ago with our Handprint Fish, we don’t really do much handprinting. All change now!  I think that this is a great activity for those of us that have children at different age groups – older children can help younger ones, or create more …

Exploring The Great Artists – 30+ Art Projects for Kids

Introducing the Great Artist to my kids is something that has been on my agenda for a long long long time. My kids are only 4yrs and 2yrs old, so of course there is still plenty of time. However, this hasn’t stopped me buying lots of wonderful art books for children (amongst our current favourites are Kate and the Mona Lisa and Anna’s Art Adventure), as well as going on trips to art galleries (our most memorable trip being to the very welcoming Tate Britain, but also a couple of visits …

Kids Crafts: Spring Colours

You may know, that I am doing a “year long” four Seasons craft project with the kids. We did a bubble wrap and finger print Four Seasons last year and enjoyed the process so much, that we are doing another “set of seasons” this year. We do them every 3 months – first we wait for the season to change.. then we talk about the season we are in and then get crafty! This year’s “theme” is colours – based on a Leo Lionni – Federick. It is a LOVELY little …

How to… Make Blossom Fairy Lights (from Egg Cartons)!

Well well well, this week’s “how to” is a little early in the week (no how to on Friday) AND my kids helped me make it – egg carton blossom fairy lights! I love love love Spring – in particular blossoms – so thought a blossom egg carton craft would be perfect! I thought that they looked so pretty even those amongst us without children may enjoy having a go at them, hence a “how to” and not “kids craft”.. They are now proudly strung up in the entrance to …

Kids Crafts: Grass Heads

Welcome back to Kids Get Crafty – this week we have our very special Grass Heads – Bill & Ben the Flowerpot men…. we made the grass heads about 3 weeks ago now.. and have been watching the hair grow and chop chop chopping it and trim trim trimming it off. Red Ted LOVES them! He was a bit sceptical at first (he saw my old tights in dismay), but soon was rather pleased with out Grass Head creations. They are a perfect craft for Spring, but you can make …

And what brought me to this crazy fun idea? Well.. the wonderful Zoe at Playing By the Book put me up to it – did you know there is an Edible Book festival EVERY year? Yep! There is.
