Wonderful Homemade Tiger Ideas for kids!
As mentioned already, these easy tiger crafts are prefect for Chinese New Year.. and a great way to explore chinese culture and the Zodiac Animals! Combine these tiger activities with our collection of Dragon Crafts and have Chinese New Year sorted this January, ready for 1st February 2022!
But of course these Tiger Activities and projetcs go beyond the animals of the Chinese zodiac and would also be suitable for celebrating India’s Independence Day – as the Tiger is the national animal of India.
You could also make these tiger crafts as any part of the a Henri Rousseau’s study unit, looking at his famous Tiger in a Tropical Storm or Surprised! painting! Especially when recreating some of the Tiger Collage Projects outlined below!
And then of course there is International Tiger Day on the 29th July!

How do you make a Tiger craft?
Are tiger crafts difficult to make, I hear you ask. Many people think you need to be really good at art or drawing to make a cute tiger craft with kids. Not so! We have a number of easy Tiger projects for you today, that break down the tiger theme into simple shapes – easy for you and the kids to have a go at! We also use lots of different materials to make these tiger crafts – from simple paper tigers, to fun with felt finger puppets. As always, work with what you have and have fun!
What is the Year of the Tiger? And when is it?
I thought today’s collection of easy tiger crafts for kids would be wonderful for the Year of the Tiger! What is the Year of the Tiger? The year of the Tiger is part of the Chinese Zodiac animals. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger (the Year of the Tiger isn’t unilt 2034! But who knows, you may be reading this in 2034!!!). Chinese New Year in 2022 is on 1st February! Enjoy.
What are the characteristics of the Year of the Tiger?
China Highlights tells us: People born in a year of the Tiger are brave, competitive, unpredictable, and confident. They are very charming and well-liked by others. But sometimes they are likely to be impetuous, irritable, and overindulged. Why not pop over and find out more?
When is International Tiger Day?
International Tiger Day is celebrated on the 29th July. International Tiger Day was created to help raise public awareness of Tigers and assist with conservation projects.

11 Cute Tiger Themed Crafts
I will begin with some Paper Tiger Crafts for kids. It is a bit of a mix.. some of these Tiger Crafts are great for the 5yrs+ age group, and some suitable as Tiger Crafts for Preschoolers. But I have put them all here together, so you can see them all and choose for yourself!
As you know we have a thing about Pop Up Cards and a few months ago, made these adorable heart Pop Up Tiger Cards that you can customise to suit any occasion – e.g. us them as birthday cards, Chinese New Year cards or make them as Tiger Valentine’s Day Cards. So sweet!
Similarly, we can resist a Corner Bookmark design.. and as with many of our crafts, have a Tiger Bookmark Corner too! A quirky craft, that is quick and easy to make.
Super simple Origami Tiger Face for kids! Learn how to make this origami tiger in just a few simple steps. Combine the paper tiger face with a greeting card or add to a collage for extra arty fun! The video tutorial for this is also on auto play here on this post!
Our fun with paper tigers continues! Now you have made some origami Tigers.. why not give these fun Paper Tiger Puppets a go? I love that no tiger templates are needed to make these cute little guys. Learn how to make the basic paper hand puppet and decorate as tigers! I LOVE these Paper Plate Tigers for two reasons – firstly, they **Rock**… as in they rock from left to right.. of course they “rock” in that they are super cool too! Teehee. And secondly.. you can make these as arty on “unarty” as you like. I used a little paint to and pens to decorate these, but you can use just pens, or use orange paper plates and some paper, or make collage the tiger using orange tissue paper… the possibilities are endless. And as always, work with what you have and don’t get any additional supplies!

Kathy’s Art Projects – here is a lovely vibrant tiger themed art project that kids can do either as a Henri Rousseau study unit or for a Chinese New Year celebration. If making this for Chinese New Year, you could incorporate reds and golds in your collage and maybe some Chinese symbols.
Make It Your Own has some gorgeous recycled projects that are really child friendly and hands on. I particularly love this recycled magazine tiger collage. Working with magazine cut outs and creating collages like this is a wonderful “must make” experience for kids.
My friend Moms and Crafters has some lovely Free Tiger Finger Puppet Templates for you to sign up for! So cute. They are a great sewing project to get kids having a go. Then finish them off for them with a little hot glue!
